Please Stop Searching - Blog 03

One thing I will never understand, or want to understand, is annoying people in classes. I mean, I have sympathy for those who have a cold and can’t stop sneezing; that unfortunately happens to all of us. The people I am talking about are the ones who are constantly doing other things in class other than focusing on the class. The ones who are on their laptops searching the web or messaging a friend and typing at a frantic speed even though there are no notes to copy down.

I guess for the most part we all have our times when are bored and want to text a friend, but some people will literally not do anything school related the entire class. This is so distracting to everyone else because they are always so oblivious when the teacher will ask them a question. First of all, they have no idea what the Professor is talking about and therefore have to ask the question again. Secondly, the Professor clearly knows you weren’t paying attention just like every other person in your row and every row behind you. That is the main reason they probably asked you the question and not someone who was paying attention. They know the people who are paying attention know what is going on, for the most part.  This subject doesn’t frustrate me so much as to it annoys me personally. What really bugs me is the fact of how much we pay for one single class for only four months. What’s the point of spending your own money, your parent’s money or your loaned from the government money (which you have to pay back) if you just want to surf the web?

I apologize if this offends any of you, but maybe it’ll be an eye opener. But I don’t think it will even be an eye opener because these sorts of people most likely have annoyed everyone, even if they are the person who sometimes does this. I have one class where we actually aren’t aloud laptops, which maybe is a little harsh because there are a lot of notes to be taken.  But at the same time, the Professor probably knows why most people are on their computers. Especially because this class is a math sort of class with some theory mixed in. We are allowed to have tablets if you want to see the PowerPoint closer up or at a slower speed but it doesn’t allow you to type and annoy everyone around you cause your screen is open for the world behind or beside you to see.

So please people, be considerate of the people sitting around you. If your always the annoying person, just stop.

  1. Did you ever think that they may be having a family emergency and have to look something up, or email someone? There are those kids who are turds in class but, maybe there are other circumstances that we don't know about that they have to figure out and do. Some people just need to multi task to get there work done, you never know!

  2. First off, I don't think you have a firm grasp on what goes on in a professor's mind. I do though. I'm quite good at reading my own mind. I really don't care about the students who don't care what's going on in class. I don't pick on them to give answers in class. I'd rather give a student who is trying a chance.

Sure, you're right. Those students are wasting their money (or their parents money which ... well ... now that it's spent, they won't be inheriting it). That's their problem. They're also wasting tax payers' money. University is somewhat subsidized. But, whatever. They're the ones who suffer most from their behavior.

Anyway, I'd rather live in a world where people are free (to be stupid) than in one where they aren't free.

  3. Last year, I had a kid who sat in front of me. All class, every class, he would browse through some strange blog site. It was filled with memes and jokes I didn't get, pictures of cats, and weird X-rated anime porn. Literally the most distracting thing a person could do silently in class. Have you ever wondered what it would look like to see a Pokemon taking it from behind? Because I know what it would look like, because of him.
